The stocks that gained the most among the top 30 core Topix names were Takeda Pharmaceutical Co Ltd up 2.53%, followed by Daiichi Sankyo Co Ltd gaining 1.78%.
Among major shares in Tokyo, shipping firm Nippon Yusen surged 7.30 percent to 3,380 yen and its rival Mitsui O.S.K. lines climbed 7.45 percent to 3,605 yen.
Terumo changed its course to fall 0.33% after rising on the news that the medical equipment maker has developed a new syringe that can get seven doses out of each vial of COVID-19 vaccine made by Pfizer Inc.
"This is not something that has been announced by our company. It is not true that it is something we have decided," Panasonic said in an emailed statement.
An acquisition would bolster Panasonic's supply chain management services as the COVID-19 pandemic focuses the attention of companies on their resilience to disruption.
