US consumer prices are expected to tick higher to 0.4% in February from 0.3% in the prior month. However, underlying prices are likely to remain unchanged.
The S&P 500 opened lower by 9.63 points, or 0.25%, at 3,915.80, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 85.33 points, or 0.63%, to 13,512.64 at the opening bell.
Cash Treasuries were not traded in Asia with Tokyo shut for holidays, but futures firmed slightly and showed an implied ten-year Treasury yield of 1.34%.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index ended 0.6% lower at 18,374.78 on Wednesday.
Dow e-minis were down 77 points, or 0.24% at 7:00 a.m. ET, while S&P 500 e-minis were down 15.5 points, or 0.39% and Nasdaq 100 e-minis were down 102.5 points, or 0.75%.
