US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price said that the US has important relations with Pakistan.
As the State Department, we continue to follow developments in Jammu and Kashmir closely. Our policy when it comes to – when it comes to it has not changed, the spokesperson said.
The onus of creating an enabling environment for further progress rests with India, the PM said.
"India must take necessary steps to meet the long-standing demand & right of the Kashmiri people to self determination acc to UNSC resolutions," the PM tweeted.
"The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is encouraged by the joint statement issued by the militaries of India and Pakistan on their agreement to observing the ceasefire at the Line of Control in Kashmir and engaging through established mechanisms," a statement said.
The President of the UN General Assembly, Volkan Bozkir, also welcomed the agreement between Pakistan and India, saying that this accord has set an example for others and demonstrates the General Assembly's value.
We encourage continued efforts to improve communication between the two sides and to reduce tensions and violence along the LoC, US State Department Spokesman Ned Price said.
"Pakistan is an important partner with whom we share many interests," the spokesman said.
In the interest of achieving mutually beneficial peace, the two DGMOs agreed to address each other's core issues and concerns 'which have propensity to disturb the peace and lead to violence'.
The two sides also reiterated that existing mechanisms of hotline contact and border flag meetings will be utilised to resolve any unforeseen situation or misunderstanding.
The incidents of systematic violence and mass rapes in IIOJK have been documented by a number of independent Commissions, human rights organzations, global media and civil society organizations, including the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the FO said.
“Pakistan is committed to a peaceful neighbourhood, the onus is now on India to create the right conditions. We urge the US to play its role,” Asad Majeed Khan said.

The experts are in contact with the Indian government on this matter.
“Such guided tours are a smokescreen, aimed at diverting international attention from India’s egregious human rights violations in IOK and creating a false impression of normalcy.”
He said the visit means nothing in the absence of access to all the areas and free interaction with the Kashmiri people and the civil society in an atmosphere free of intimidation.
Despite the government’s desire to showcase normalcy, several roads were deserted and markets were partially shut because of a security clampdown
Tens of thousands of people have been killed in an uprising against Indian rule in Muslim-majority Kashmir that started in 1989, but violence has slowed in recent months.
He said it is another matter that the international community, including the Security Council, has been unable to find political solutions to several long-standing disputes such as Jammu and Kashmir.
UN peacekeeping has so far not been used to impose peace; but rather to help preserve peace and foster conditions for the political resolution of the underlying conflicts and disputes,” Akram said.

The New York State Assembly has passed a resolution, calling on Governor Andrew Cuomo to declare the 5th of February as the Kashmir American Day.
The Assembly's move has been met with the ire of Indian officials, citing their "concern" with regards to the attempts being made by "vested interests" to misrepresent Jammu and Kashmir's rich socio-cultural heritage.
The New York State Assembly marked February 5 as Kashmir Day by adopting a resolution by a voice vote.
"The State of New York endeavours to champion human rights including the freedom of religion, movement, and expression for all Kashmiri people," the resolution said.
The FO issued this statement following PM's statement that Pakistan will allow the Kashmiris to decide between choosing to join Pakistan or remaining independent even after they vote in favour of Pakistan.
"Pakistan remains firmly committed to the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute through free and impartial plebiscite under the UN auspices as enshrined in the relevant UNSC resolutions," FO added.
