The pound rose 0.5% to $1.3159, its highest level since early March. On a monthly basis, it is up nearly 6%, its biggest rise since May 2009, according to Refinitiv data.
Weakness in the US currency propelled the euro higher, with the single currency touching $1.19, its strongest since May 2018, and enjoying its best month since September 2010.
Cotton contracts for December rose 0.51 cent, or 0.8%, to 61.62 cents per lb .
