SWAT: Police in Swat district have arrested seven militants including a key commander while a former union council nazim was also arrested on attempting to free the militant commander.
According to Station House Officer, Rahimabad, Hanif Khan, police conducted raids in Odigram area on receiving tip-off and arrested seven wanted militants including a key militant commander, Qari Atiq ur Rehman.
The arrested militants were identified as Murad s/o Humayun, Sher Ali s/o Abdul Malik, Muhammad Yaqub s/o Abdul Hakim, Amanullah s/o Muhammad Khan, Umer Farooq s/o Shehzad and Gul Zamin s/o Bakht Muhammad.
The SHO said, the arrested militants were wanted to Swat Police in different crimes of heinous nature including terrorism.
He said during the arrests, former union council nazim, Muhammad Kamal tried to free militant commander, Qari Atiq ur Rehaman upon which the nazim was also taken into custody and a case was registered against him under sections 225/216/253/186/506. Further interrogation was underway from the arrested militants.
