The Met Office has asked the farmers to ensure field sanitation and spray prophylactic fungicidal to prevent spread of diseases on vegetable crops. In advisory to growers for next 10 days, it said the farmers should also take steps to protect standing crops and orchids from the damaging impacts of extreme weather like thunder-sandstorm, gusty winds, hails etc.
"Removing weeds from the standing crops is very important as weeds utilize moisture and food which are to be utilized by the crop. As a result considerable loss in yield occurs every year," it said.
Normal wind pattern is expected to prevail over the most of agricultural plains during the period. However, sandstorms may swirl across the Southern Punjab and Upper Sindh. Night and daytime temperatures are likely to remain slightly normal in the most parts of country.
Partially hot and cloudy weather is expected in the most parts of Punjab with a scattered light to moderate rain-thunderstorm. Widely dry weather with a scattered light to moderate rainfall in Sindh.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a light to moderate rain-thunderstorm is expected across its most parts while in Balochistan a light rain-thunderstorm with gusty winds is expected in Quetta, Zhob and Kalat Division. Heavy isolated rain-thunderstorm with gusty winds is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir and its adjoining areas.
