PFA seals 21 food outlets

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Saturday launched a province-wise crackdown to inspect production of food commodities, controlling the sale of prohibited products and examining the quality of food at local shops, production units and restaurants.
The Authority closed down 21 food businesses and penalized 76 others by issuing an cumulative fine of Rs 713,500. Out of 21 sealing, two each in Lahore, Muzaffargarh, Bahawalpur and Rawalpindi, while seven were sealed in Gujranwala, four in Multan and one each in Faisalabad and Sargodha.
In Lahore, two poultry sale centres were sealed for not adopting proper cleanliness. The PEF teams have imposed Rs 128000 fine on 15 food points and served improvement notices on 55 shops. They also discarded more than 33,000 kilograms adulterated and unsafe food items.
