Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi on Friday announced to hold a strike in the city against the excessive electricity load shedding and billings on April 27. At a stationary protest, JI Karachi Chief, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said that his party workers will lay a siege of Chief Minister House on April 20 before going on a strike on April 27 against the 'traumatizing' power outages by the K-Electric. "We will enter the Red-Zone at any cost," he vowed.
He said that the JI will stage a sit-in on April 20 at the Chief Minister House and continue it till the electricity issue is solved. "If the government make serious effort then we will corporate with it," he warned, saying that excessive billings with unannounced power cuts will no longer be tolerated. The sit-in protests will take place over 50 different points in the city.
Slamming the K-Electric for long-hour power outages, he said the power supplier company is taking advantage of public miseries on the pretext of gas shortage to run its generation plants. "The K-Electric is receiving bills on furnace oil generation of electric cost, while running its plants on gas," he alleged, saying that the city is faced with the 'worst' electricity crisis.
He also alleged the PPP and MQM for protecting the K-Electric interest, saying that "the Chief Minister Sindh cannot exonerate itself from responsibilities just sending a letter to the federal government," he said, adding that the JI will resist the government's heavy handedness during the proposed protest in the Red-Zone area. "Chief Minister has to make a decision whether he is ready to talks with JI protestors or ordering police to fire at them," he said.
