General Secretary ANP of Mian Iftikhar Hussain said on Saturday that the followers of Bacha Khan and Abdul Wali Khan had fought the battle of the supremacy of democracy in every era of the history, adding that the holding of public meeting on the death anniversary of both leaders is an effort to strengthen democracy.
He was addressing a press conference in connections with the public meeting scheduled today (Sunday) at Ring Road. Central spokesman ANP Zahid Khan, provincial general secretary Sardar Hussain Babak and provincial spokesman, Haroon Bashir Bilour, were also present on the occasion.
The veteran politician said that successful public meetings of the political parties will strengthen democracy. He said that democracy is under threat and rumours regarding the packing of the government and establishment of technocratic government is still in the air and if happened will be disastrous for democracy.
He said that saving of the Balochistan Assembly from dissolution is good, but a chief minister elected with obtaining only 500 votes could surrender anytime while PTI chief Imran Khan is also flexing muscles for the dissolution of KP assembly.
Mian Iftikhar said that the Pervez Khatak had hinted to dissolve the KP assembly after remaining asleep for a period of four and half year. He said that after the dissolution of Balochistan Assembly, the same fate of KP assembly was part of the plan, whose chances had now become minimized. However, threats to it still prevail. He said that a war of nerves still prevails and to combat it urged the people to ensure full participation in it to strengthen democracy.
About rape and murder incidents with children, he termed it a new shape of terrorism, which beside children had also frightened both parents and teachers. He said that the arrest of the accused of Kasur incident is welcoming, but asked the Chief Minister Punjab to till about such incidents happened in past.
He said that those demanding resignation from the government of Punjab over Kasur incident are silent over similar incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and had even not registered FIRs of the inhuman incidents with girls in D.I. Khan, Mardan and Naushera, which is the ample proof of the bids of the government to hide the culprits.
