Message from Secretary Agriculture Department Government of Sindh
I would like to express my thanks to the management of Sindh Board of Investment, in particular to Ms NaheedMemon, chairperson, and Mehboob ul Haq, CEO Sindh Enterprise Development Fund, for organising the 6th edition of the Livestock, Dairy, Fisheries, Poultry & Agriculture Exhibition & Seminar, Horse, Cattle and Flower Show (LDFA) at Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam. The SBI has, since its inception, worked hard to add value to important sectors of the Sindhi economy.
Agriculture, as most will know, remains the single most important sector through its share of employment, contribution to GDP and impact on the lives of people living in all corners of Sindh.
Sindh Enterprise Development Fund (SEDF) in previous years has successfully exhibited the event in Karachi and provided a platform to the agriculture department to showcase new, better yielding crops and salient features of the important work we do. It is heartening to see the exhibition move this year from Karachi to the Sindh Agriculture University in Tando Jam. This highlights our commitment to all areas of the province and our continued support to academia. I would like to express my appreciation to the University for hosting this significant event and working to modernise farming practices in our great province.
The primary aim of the agriculture department is to attain food security and poverty alleviation for the many by increasing yields on key crops and facilitating the export of surplus produce. The Department continues to strive towards the enhancement of the agriculture sector through timely initiatives to control pests, introduce high yielding crops, preserve domestic crops and increase the stocks and products by introducing new technologies and value chains.
In a rapidly changing world it is especially important to maintain close links with research in our field. The Sindh Agriculture University is uniquely placed in this regard. It is the hope of the Agriculture Department that all stakeholders can come together to improve the prospects of this province, alleviate poverty and ultimately facilitate a better quality of life.
