Message from Vice Chancellor Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam
It is a matter of great pleasure and honour for me personally, and for the university faculty and administration, to host this mega event "Exhibition and Conference on Livestock, Dairy, Fisheries, Poultry, and Agriculture" at Sindh Agriculture University. The event is being organised with the active support and participation of the Sindh Enterprises Development Fund, Livestock Department Government of Sindh and Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam. I am glad to learn that many of the Financial Institutions are participating and playing an active role towardsthe success of the event.
Besides banks, alarge number of stakeholders, farming organisations, different public and private organisations, agri-input and produce marketing companies, progressive, small and landless farmers, NGOs and CBOs plan to display their exhibits and products and participate fully in the event. We welcome them all and value their efforts and input in organising this.
We expect many intense consultations; technology awareness programs, mutual interactions, and stakeholder feedback in identifying issues confronting progress of the livestock dairy, fisheries, poultry and agriculture sectors, and determine suitable solutions and appropriate interventions for future work. The overall objective is to share the advancements in the field of agriculture and livestock, determine technology options and establish linkages for collaborations to address pertinent issues.
Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tando Jam is the only seat of learning to cater agriculture education, research and human resource development needs of the province. As a premier agricultural institution, it has made significant contribution in manpower development and produced approx. 30000 graduates and postgraduates since its establishment in 1977. These graduates are contributing to the progress of Dairy, Fisheries, Poultry and Agriculture and allied sectors, particularly in Sindh, and also in other provinces of Pakistan.
Pakistan has a rich and vast natural resource base and different agro-ecological and climatic zones with great potential for producing all types of crops including food crops, cash crops, fruits, fodder and vegetable commodities. Thus, the agriculture sector continues to be an essential component of Pakistan's economy. It currently contributes 22 percent to GDP. In Sindh, crop yields are relatively high as compared to other parts of the country, yet there is lot of unexploited potential to improve crop and livestock production, increase growth rate in agriculture and contribute to economic uplift of masses, rural development, food security and poverty alleviation. Therefore, all the stakeholders working for increased growth of the sub sector must gear up their efforts to achieve the desired targets and goals.
It is a matter of great satisfaction that all the stakeholders are jointly working for the cause and trying to thresh out the issues under the umbrella of the organising unit of this event. The initiative of the Sindh Board of Investment (SBI) under Sindh Enterprises Development Fund (SEDF) and the participating public and private organisations is highly credible and deserves appreciation. I am glad that the SBI, SEDF and other public and private organisations are playing this key role. I feel highly elated to extend my heartfelt felicitation regarding the exhibition and conference at Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam.
I invite all the stakeholders including alumni to come forward and join us in our future endeavours with high ambitions and perspective for the future.
