3 persons including a new-born died while 3 others including 2 children got injured on Friday in a gas cylinder explosion here at a house in PWD Colony. The dead included a mother, her newborn and a maid, while 2 children and their grandmother were critically injured in the incident occurred within the limits of Lohi Bher police station.
Police said that an LPG cylinder exploded inside the house number 480, street 38, block C, PWD Colony. The house is rented by Laique Ahmed who works as Director Finance at a private television channel. Due to the blast, the single-storey building collapsed, trapping the inmates under the debris.
As a result of the blast Bakhtawar Bibi wife of Laique Ahmed, her new-born baby and a 14-year-old maid died. The injured included Laique's son Ahmed, his daughter Hush Baht and his mother.
Soon after the blast, police and rescue workers reached there and shifted the injured and the dead to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). Police said that as per initial investigation the roof of the house collapsed in result of gas cylinder explosion. However further investigation is under way keeping various aspects in view.
