The final round of Bank AlHabib's 6th Rashid D. Habib National Professional Golf Tournament 2017 was played on Monday at Karachi Golf Club.
The spectators had to wait for extra time as Pakistan's two top golfers competed twice after continuously ending with equal scores. Pakistan's national golfer Shabbir Iqbal clinched the trophy with 205/11 under par. He was paid an award money of Rs 433,200. M. Munir was the runner up with his 205/11 under par who left with award money of Rs 291,555. Matloob Ahmed secured third position after scoring 211/5 under par and a cheque for Rs 180,405. Defending champion Waheed Bloch stood at 212 four under par and award money of Rs 149,055.
Chief guest at the occasion, Pakistan Navy Commander Karachi Rear Admiral Farrokh Ahmed HI (M) said, "It is a pleasure for me attend this event and witness the endeavours and persuades for sports and especially Golf in Pakistan by Bank AlHabib's Mr. Abbas D. Habib."
Bank AlHabib's Golf tournaments is held every year in the memory of legendary banker Rashid D. Habib who was also a keen sportsman and an ace golfer with great contribution to the development of sports in Pakistan. This tournament offers highest prize money in Pakistan. Total prize money this year was Rs 5.1 million. A brand new Toyota car was also offered for any lucky golfer to put a hole-in-one, however car stayed unclaimed as no golfer achieved this target.
A special appearance money of Rs 500,000 was equally distributed between country's five top golfers; Waheed Baloch, Shahid Javed, Matloob Ahmed, M. Munir and Shabbir Iqbal. The weather today was excellent for a golfer and sunshine was pleasant, with favourable winds.-PR
