Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said rain water drainage work was going on swiftly and almost all major arteries were cleared. He said this while visiting different areas of city on Saturday and Sunday. Director General Technical Service, DMC chairmen and other officers accompanied him on this occasion.
Mayor Karachi said some areas of city received 55ml rain due to which rain water accumulated in low lying areas, however KMC and DMC administration drained out most of the water by incorporating all their resources.
Taking notice of delay in drainage of rain water from remote areas he directed to shift the pumps from main corridors to these areas so these could also be cleared fully.
Mayor Karachi said besides staff of municipal services, city wardens were also performing their duty on roads but traffic police was not seen anywhere.
He said citizens had troubles at the under construction roads including University Road and Tariq Road, however they would surely get relief after the completion of construction work.
Mayor Karachi said water flow in storm water drains was normal and all rain water will drain out easily through these channels.
He said low lying water accumulation points were indicated and now these will be corrected on permanent basis to prevent rain water accumulation.
D.G Technical Services Shahab Anwer while giving a briefing to Mayor Karachi pinpointed five such locations where rain water stayed. He said at some places storm water drainage routes were blocked due to encroachments. Mayor Karachi issued instruction to prepare a comprehensive plan for removal of encroachments from storm water drains and to complete this work fully for good.
