The second three-day Pak Water Expo closed on Thursday with over 30 million rupees business deals at Expo Centre Karachi. The event was organised by Prime Event Management in collaboration with Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB).
Deputy Mayor Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Dr Arshad Abdullah Vohra was chief guest at the closing ceremony. He visited all stalls along with Director Prime Event Management Kamran Abbasi and appreciated his efforts. After his visit, he awarded shields to exhibitors.
Later talking to media persons, Dr Arshad Abdullah Vohra emphasised that such exhibitions should be held twice a year to create awareness among masses about efficient use of water through modern technology, and more business opportunities for local and international companies.
KW&SB performance is not satisfactory and it did not deliver well during past years. "Sewerage system of city must be replaced to get maximum benefits from K-IV project as this will also take two and a half years for completion. Water supply and sewage lines are mixed causing diarrheal diseases. Federal government should also help us to resolve this issue," he added.
Dr Arshad Vohra told that they urged federal government to include Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project in CPEC and this is not being implemented. All proposals submitted by Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar should be approved at earliest. There is need of water treatment plants in the city at this time. Government and city cannot afford water desalination plants due to its higher cost, he argued.
Pakistan People Party (PPP) never addressed city needs in its governments but now they are trying to address city issues just because of personal interest of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, he said. Responding to question about ongoing 100-day cleanliness campaign in city, he told that they have started a symbolic campaign in 18 union councils of city 209 UCs.
With just this campaign city cannot be cleaned however we will do such campaign in all union councils of city gradually with all available resources, Dr Arshad Vohra added. Talking to media persons, Director Prime Event Management Kamran Abbasi told that over 30 million rupees business deals were matured which is a positive outcome and encouraging for organisers and exhibitors.
Officials from public and private sector also expressed their interest to purchase new technology. During all three days, local and international companies exhibited their products and equipment used in water treatment, water desalination, water conservation, water distribution, wastewater management, effluent treatment, water recycle and reuse and waste water sludge disposal. Pak Water Expo will now be a regular feature every year, Kamran Abbasi announced.
On second day of event, expo summit was also held, in which Dr Atif Mustafa, Farhan Arooj, Director Engineering, Universal Environmental Engineering, Malaysia and Engineer Malik Saleem Ullah Saeed, Director Business Development WEMS Group of Companies delivered their lectures.
