Naheed Khan, former political secretary to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairwoman Benazir Bhutto has asked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) not to take any decision on the enlistment or any consequential action regarding the PPPP before the final adjudication of the matter by Islamabad High Court. In a statement sent to the ECP, Naheed Khan said that, "PPP has held its intra party elections on January 7, 2017.
The hurried and the clandestine manner in which the elections have been held, belies the very concept of upholding the democratic traditions. She further said that serious questions had been raised over the manner in which the elections were conducted. She said that the matter of the enlistment of PPP had come before the ECP on March 19, 2013. She said that despite the strong honesty of her, a belated application by Latif Khosa as secretary general and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as patron-in-chief (both being disqualified by the PPO 2002 to hold party offices) was accepted and the party was enlisted with Latif Khosa as secretary general on March 25, 2013.
"This decision of the ECP is under adjudication in a written petition at the IHC and the next date fixed for hearing is January 23, 2017, said Naheed Khan asking the CEC Sardar Muhammad Raza not to take any decision on enlistment of PPP before the court's hearing.
