State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb has been removed by the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday from the committee formed to select Pakistan Media Regulation Authority (PEMRA) chairman.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar removed the minister saying that she will be busy giving statements. Aurangzeb has been replaced in the committee by the Information Secretary Sardar Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera, local media reported.

The SC was hearing the media commission case. The CJP was informed by Additional Attorney General (AAG) Rana Waqar that a seven-member committee was formed by the government to select PEMRA's chairman, which consisted of prominent journalists and the Pakistan Broadcasting Association chairman.

The CJP was assured  by the AAG that the new chairman of PEMRA would be decided within three weeks. He further informed the top court that the committee will nominate a three-member based panel to select the chairman.
