PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) General Secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain Friday said the Suprem Court's decision of disqualifying Nawaz Sharif and PTI leader Jahangir Tareen for life time was not unexpected and held the politicians responsible for taking political matters to courts instead of parliament.

Addressing a youth convention in Nowshera, he said there was lack of trust among the politicians. The political matters should not be dragged into courts as the parliament was the best platform to address the same, he added.

He welcomed approval of the bill extending jurisdiction of the Peshawar High Court and Supreme Court to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) by the Senate as it would give relief to tribal people.

Iftikhar called for immediate decision regarding FATA reforms and its merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and said the tribal displaced persons, who were returning to their native areas, should be facilitated.

He said the 18th Constitutional Amendment was a revolutionary law, which empowered the federating units over their resources and any attempt to role back it would be resisted.

The ANP leader said no other system than democracy could run in the country and the Election Commission was bound to ensure transparent and fair and independent election.
