The Supreme Court (SC) has taken suo motu notice on Thursday of the rape and murder of eight-year-old girl who was found with burn injuries on her body in Chichawatni, Punjab.

According to local media reports, the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar took notice of the incidence when it was reported on media. The CJP has sought a report in this regard to the top court within 24 hours.

Noor Fatima, an eight-year-old primary student, went missing and did not return home, after which her family started searching for her. She was found later unconscious and her body had burn injuries. She was immediately rushed to a hospital but the girl succumbed to her injuries.

Chichawatni locals observe strike over rape, murder of minor girl

According to postmortem report, Noor was raped and set ablaze by her murderers. The suspects thought the girl has died and had left her. A suspect has been taken into custody by the police.

The locals observed a strike on April 10 and appealed to the CJP and the Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa to take notice of this incidence.
