ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Tuesday adjourned pleas challenging Election Act 2017 till February 16, with the directives for submission of copies of identical petitions sub judice in the Supreme Court.

Justice Aamir Farooq heard the three identical petitions moved by political parties and Mirza Zulifqar Ahmed challenging some clauses of the Elections Act 2017.

During the course of proceedings, Justice Amir remarked that how a lower court could hear a matter as according to his knowledge identical petitions were sub judice before the apex court.

Raja Rizwan Abbasi, counsel for one of the litigants, apprised the court that their case pertained to clauses of the act, which were not challenged before the august court and requested to issue the notices to the respondents.

The bench while issuing notices to the respondents also sought copies of the petitions sub judice in the apex court.
