Sindh government has closed down a number of training institutes of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Youth Development Programme (BBSYDP) for skill development in Sindh rendering the master trainers jobless, due to failure of the programme.
The youth development programme was marred by political interference and using it by politicians for recruitment of political activists and their cronies as trainers or trainees. As the government realises that the unemployed youth had taken the programme just as a source of earning pocket money, it closed some of its training centres.
Sources told Business Recorder that initially provincial health department had selected 3,850 unskilled youth for training in 2009, but now it has reduced the number of candidates to 2,000 due to ineffectiveness of the programme. Although, the government has taken right step to save wastage of money. However, it failed to provide a fair chance to the deserving candidates to get training under the programme.
