The establishment of Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) is a revolutionary step of the Punjab government that would leave far-reaching impact on the improvement of education sector. Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif expressed his views while inaugurating the new block of the building of PEEF and later talking to the staff here on Saturday.
Highlighting the importance of the project he said that the main objective of PEEF is to equip those talented students with education who cannot complete their education due to their financial constraints. Chairman PEEF, Dr Amjad Saqib and Secretary Schools were also present on the occasion. The CM said that the staff of PEEF was working for materialising the dream of the government for the accomplishment of educational activities of poor girl and boy students.
He further said that Punjab government had established PEEF with two billion rupees first time in the history of the province for the poor talented students and increase of two billion rupees would be made in it annually. In order to move ahead they would have to promote purposeful and latest education in the province and pay attention to the subjects, including physics, chemistry, mathematics, medicines, engineering and other sectors so that youth do not have to search for the jobs.
He said that there should be a proper balance between arts and science but full attention should be paid to the promotion of technical education that is of paramount importance for the development of the country. He said that the country could not be put on the road to progress without equipping new generation with modern knowledge, moreover, government is encouraging those students who had completed their technical education and soon he would meet students obtaining top positions in the examinations of technical education.
He said that the government would bear the expenditures of talented students getting admission for higher education in the local and foreign universities so that they could play their effective role in the development of the country after getting degrees in science subjects from international universities.
Earlier, Vice Chairman, PEEF, Dr Amjad Saqib informed that process of awarding of scholarships from the Fund has been started and in the first phase, five thousa0nd scholarships have been distributed among talented students. He said that staff of the PEEF is performing its duties with hard work and dedication. The staff of PEEF also presented a cheque of Rs 50 thousand contributed from their one-day salary.
