Number of plots for LERP raised to 24,000

The Federal Secretary Planning and Development, Humayun Farshori, on Tuesday visited the two developing Taisar and Baldia sites of Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project (LERP). He was taken round of various infrastructure facilities developed so far at the two sites.
In a briefing on the occasion, project director Shafiqur Rehman Paracha said as per a survey report some 14,811 residential plots of 80 sq yards were planned at the three sites of Hawksbay, Taisar and Baldia.
However, following the decision of Sindh High Court to count each level of multi-storeyed buildings as separate unit, being separate family residing per unit and due to difference in the initial and final survey, the number of plots to be provided to the shiftees of LEW project increased to over 24,000.
He said an area of 539 acres was allocated for 14,811 families and 501 acres land made available to LERP upon demarcation and taking over physical possession of designated sectors of Hawksbay, Taisar and Baldia sites incorporating 12.702 planned plots.
He said an additional area of 281 acres was added on an emergency basis to account for shortfall area and anticipatory number of enhanced affected families at Hawksbay and Taiser Towns envisaging 18,284 planned plots.
Paracha said recently additional area of 236 acres was again added bringing the total allocated land for over 24,000 families to 1018 acres.
Giving break-up, he said, 218 acres of land for 5434 plots of 80 sq yards was allotted in Hawksbay site, 420 acres for 9926 plots in Taiser Town and 144 acres were provided for 2924 plots besides 236 acres added recently to create another 5800 plots in Taisar Town.
Regarding supply of utilities, the director said electricity has been commissioned in Hawksbay and Taisar while work is completed in Baldia.
He said gas commissioned in Block 9 and 10 in Hawksbay and arrangements being made with SSGC for Block-6 while in Taisar the work on gas supply was in completion stage in sector 35 and 36 and SSGC requested to take up work in other sectors while for Baldia SSGC requested for early laying of distribution system.
As regards water supply, it is available in Hawksbay through tankers and one day supply through KWSB main for three-hour pumping.
He gave details of progress in respect of other utilities, including sewerage, roads in three sites besides mosques, church, parks, schools, dispensary, merchandise shopping centers and construction material supplies shopping centers.
