Tasneem Noorani, former Interior Secretary, who took over the charge as the Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, on Friday, held a meeting with the senior officials of the commerce ministry here on Saturday.
Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar Khan as well as other senior officials briefed Tasneem Noorani in detail on various issues of all the wings under the commerce ministry, says a press release.
Talking to the senior officials of the ministry, Noorani underlined the importance of the commerce ministry in national context.
He said the commerce ministry could play a very vital role in national progress and prosperity, and urged all the officials present in the meeting to give their maximum input for the improved functioning of the ministry.
Tasneem Noorani has done his Masters in Geology from the Punjab University, Lahore, and MBA (Marketing & Finance) from the Center for Management Studies, Tehran.
As far as Tasneem Noorani's professional background is concerned he has vast secretariat, corporate sector and field experience. He has worked on various key-posts in provincial as well as federal government.
Noorani performed his duties as assistant commissioner, deputy commissioner and commissioner in various districts and divisions in Pakistan.
He worked as the secretary, Planning and Development and secretary, Education, in the Punjab government. He worked as the federal secretary, Ministry of Industries & Production and secretary, Ministry of Interior.
Besides, he has been managing director and general manager to various corporations and boards.
From 1965-69, Noorani was posted as Charge de Affairs and Trade Minister, Pakistan Embassy, Singapore.
He was awarded Tamgha-e-Khidmat for services as the assistant commissioner, Shakargarh, in 1971 war.
