LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday took notice of news published in a section of the press that a 32-years-old woman was set on fire by her in-laws in the suburban areas of Lahore.

The District & Sessions Judge (D&SJ), Lahore has been directed to probe the matter and submit a detailed report on steps taken by local police along with his own comments.

Aqeela Bibi, a resident of Barki Hadyara, had married with Ghulam Rasool about one year ago but the attitude of her in-laws was very rude towards her over dowry.

It was alleged that sisters-in-law of Aqeela along with their accomplice Faiz tied the hands and feet of the victim and set her ablaze after dousing her in petrol.

Her father alleged that police had received bribe to declare the culprits innocent. However, police said accused Faiz had been bailed by local court and they had not declared him innocent yet.

The LHC Complaint Cell took serious notice of the news and directed the D&SJ to look into the matter and submit report within a week.
