LHC issues contempt notice to SSP(Operations), Lahore

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Thursday issued contempt notices to SSP Operations, Lahore Rana Jabbar and two other officials for arresting a person despite restraining order.

Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi passed the orders on a contempt petition filed by Saleema Bibi.The petitioner through his plea submitted that the court ordered police to restrain from arresting his two sons namely Usman and Rizwan in any case registered before October, 2012 after it was submitted that the police had threatened them, during hearing of a case against killing of petitioner's five sons in police encounters.

However, the police arrested his son, Rizwan in a case registered before the said date, she added. The petitioner requested the court to initiate contempt proceedings against officials involved in the matter.

As proceedings started today, SSP operation, Lahore, Rana Jabbar, Inspector Muhammad Ishfaq and Sub-Inspector Rasheed Ahmad of Gulberg police station appeared before the court along Rizwan.

The court reprimanded the officials for arresting Rizwan despite court order and issued contempt notices to all three officials.

The court also appointed a deputy prosecutor to frame charges against them and adjourned the matter till May 17.

Saleema Bibi, in his main petition, submitted police killed his five sons including Malik Shahid, Malik Zahid, Malik Majid, Malik Adnan and Malik Imran and four other relatives in three different police encounters on September 18, 2012.

She further expressed serious apprehensions regarding life of his four remaining sons who were being threatened by the police.
