LAHORE: A full bench of the Lahore High Court Tuesday disposed of a petition seeking directions to restrain former Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira from contesting election from NA-106.

The full bench headed by Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan directed petitioner to approach the Election Commission while disposing of the matter.

The petition was filed by Muhammad Shabir, a voter from NA-106, through his counsel Asad Manzoor Butt. The petitioner through his petition submitted that Qamar Zaman Kaira in a contempt case against his brother assured the court that he would fulfill the outstanding liability besides giving a cheque of Rs 1 million as guarantee.

However, Kaira failed to fulfill his commitment and cheque was also bounced, he added.

He contended that Qamar Zaman Kaira was not an honest person, therefore, he did not fulfill the criteria set in Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution.

He prayed the bench to set aside decision of the returning officer and reject Kaira's nomination papers from NA-106.
