LAHORE: A full bench of the Lahore High Court Friday issued a notice for April 22 to former information minister Qamar Zaman Kaira on a petition against acceptance of his nomination papers from NA-106.

The full bench headed by Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan issued the notice on a petition filed by Muhammad Shabir, a voter from NA-106, through his counsel Asad Manzoor Butt.

Earlier, the petitioner's counsel submitted that Qamar Zaman Kaira in a contempt case against his brother assured the court that he would fulfill the outstanding liability besides giving a cheque of Rs 1 million as guarantee.

However, Kaira failed to fulfill his commitment and cheque was also bounced, he added.

He contended that Qamar Zaman Kaira was not an honest person, therefore, he did not fulfill the criteria set in Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution.

He prayed the bench to set aside decision of the returning officer and tribunal and reject Kaira's nomination papers from NA-106.

The bench after hearing the arguments issued notice for April 22 to Qamar Zaman Kaira and sought reply.
