The cabinet deliberated on ensuring rapid progress on the joint venture project relating to Thar coal development. Provincial Secretary Coal and Energy Development Department Ijaz Ali Khan briefed the Cabinet on the project.
The Cabinet endorsed the decisions of the Economic Coordination Committee. The meeting was told that the share of Sindh Government has been increased from 40 per cent to 51 per cent so that sovereign guarantee of up to $700 million could be obtained.
It was told that a 300MW power plant has been included in the SECM joint venture.
The cabinet decided to form a committee headed by Muhammad Zubair Motiwala to finalise and approve the required changes in the joint venture agreement.
The meeting decided that ground-breaking ceremony of this power project will be held soon. It was told that the Sindh Government will provide Rs 450 million for this project.
This scheme will initially create 4,000 jobs, while from 800 to 1,000 drivers will also be needed.
The Cabinet unanimously approved the joint venture project between Engro Group and the Sindh Government. They termed it a positive development with regard to Thar Coal mining.
