(Karachi) In wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has appealed Prime Minister Imran Khan to announce that people should celebrate Eid with simplicity in the country.

Addressing a press briefing in Karachi on Thursday, provincial government has opened all shopping malls and markets on the instructions of the Supreme Court. The CM mentioned it is feared coronavirus cases will surge after 14 days if people did not exercise social distancing and follow SOPs.

Murad Ali Shah said that we were able to control spread of the disease by taking timely action. He urged people to celebrate Eid with simplicity.

He said seven doctors in Sindh have succumbed to the novel coronavirus so far. While paying tribute to the late doctors, he said that until now, 364 healthcare professionals have been infected by the virus.

The chief minister further said that 274 policemen were infected, out of which 50 have recovered. Five officials have passed away, he said.

The chief minister announced that a proposal to provide compensation package to families of doctors who have passed away from the coronavirus will be tabled before the cabinet.

He said that 20 people have lost their lives due to novel coronavirus during the last 24 hours, while the number of deaths in the province due to the disease has reached 336. He maintained that 960 people have been infected with the virus in 24 hours.

In addition, he pointed out 680 people recovered from the disease. The chief minister said that more than 137,000 corona tests have been conducted so far in the province.
