The Prime Minister, Imran Khan, said on Monday that lockdown would be further eased gradually to provide livelihood to the low-income group and daily wagers.
While addressing the tiger force (volunteers), the prime minister said that "we have to gradually open the lockdown because people have been badly affected by it and have become redundant."
He said that, "we will open lockdown, so that the people could get employment and if the people did not follow the SOPs as there is fear that corona will spread rapidly if the SOPs were not followed, the lockdown may be reinforced."
He said that the role of volunteers would be very critical as they have created awareness among the people with regard to coronavirus and how to follow precautions and show responsibility.
The prime minister said that biggest challenge for the government had been on the one hand to protect the people from the coronavirus and on the other hand to protect them against hunger and providing them employment.
This is where, the government needs tiger force's help, to help the administration at this critical juncture to deal with the challenge of coronavirus, he added.
The prime minister said that the tiger force was a volunteer force and would work in coordination with the administration. The tiger force would set up desk at the UC level to help those who have lost livelihood to get registered with the government's web portal for assistance. The volunteer would also keep an eye at hoarding and availability of essential commodities at the USC
The premier also recounted Imran's tiger force constituted by him comprising school children way back in '90s to mobilize donations for cancer hospital and acknowledged that without the help of school children the cancer hospital would not have been built.
The prime minister stated that he decided to set up tiger force because challenge before the country in the form of pandemic was immense and consequent lockdown created big issues for daily wagers, vendors and others depending on daily earning.
The prime minister said that volunteers would help the administration.
Usman Dr, special assistant to prime minister and others also spoke on the occasion.
