(Karachi) At least five children drowned in a pond situated near an under construction building in Surjani Town's Sector 7D, media reported on Sunday.

Police and rescue officials said the incident occurred when the children were playing on the site and jumped into the pond for the sake of taking a bath. All the children were aged between nine to 14 years.

The rescue officials have retrieved the bodies and shifted them to local hospital for completing legal formalities.

Four of the victims were identified as Abdullah, Maqsood, Zubair and Armaan.

Meanwhile, the area people blamed the water board officials and builders for the negligence. They stated the leaking water from the pipeline accumulated in the pond which is three to four feet deep.
