(Karachi) At least 15 people died of coronavirus while 12 new cases have been detected in Islamabad and one in Gilgit-Baltistan taking the total number of patients across the country to 12,723.

The National Command and Operation Centre stated that 783 new cases have been reported in Pakistan during the last 24 hours.

The tally of cases in the federal capital has reached 235. Besides, the government's Covid-19 portal has reported 111 additional recoveries, taking the total number of recovered patients to 2,866. However, 78 patients are in critical condition.

The National Command and Operation Centre stated that 81 percent of cases are local transmissions while 19 percent are through foreign travel.

So far, more than 12,000 confirmed coronavirus cases have been reported across Pakistan. Of them, 265 people have died while 2,866 have recovered from the deadly disease. The highest number of patients have been recorded in Punjab with 5,326, Sindh 4,232, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 1,793, Balochistan 721 cases, Islamabad 235 cases, Gilgit-Baltistan 308 and Azad Kashmir 55 cases.

In Pakistan, most of the initial corona-positive cases were traced to Iran. Interestingly, despite its close proximity with China, not a single case has been imported into Pakistan from there. But now local transmission of the virus has become a challenge for the cash-strapped government.
