(Karachi) At least 15 people died of coronavirus across the country during the last 24 hours taking the overall death toll to 159, media reported on Sunday. Of the total number of deaths, eight people died of the disease in Sindh.

According to details, more than 7,900 confirmed cases have been reported in the country so far. Of them, 2,355 cases have been reported in Sindh, 3,649 in Punjab, 1,077 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 376 in Balochistan, 171 in Islamabad, 250 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 48 in Azad Kashmir.

Meanwhile, 36 people have recovered from the coronavirus during the last 24 hours. The total number of recovered patients has reached 1,868.

Earlier speaking during a press briefing, Prime Minister Imran Khan warned that though the number of cases in Pakistan is lower than many other countries of the world, the country might face increased coronavirus cases from May 15 onwards, bringing the healthcare system under a significant pressure.

He said the country has less Covid-19 cases compared to a large number of countries in the world as the federal government took the timely decision of imposing a lockdown.

The PM maintained, “50,000 cases were expected by April 25, but we were saved from the disaster as we implemented lockdown in March when there were only 25 cases in the country. Our new projections suggest that we will have 12,000 to 15,000 coronavirus patients." However, he warned that the situation can escalate anytime if the safety protocols are not followed.
