Pakistan International Container Terminal Limited (PICT) announced on Friday, to waive its charges on import consignments of necessary materials to combat COVD-19.

“PICT continues to operate 24 hours with all possible precautionary measures and essential staff only to ensure the sustainability of Pakistan trade and its duty towards the society,” said PICT in its filing to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).

“Apart from various other initiatives taken by PICT within its premises, PICT has decided to waive its charges on import consignments of necessary materials to combat COVD-19 which include hand sanitizers, protective masks, surgical gloves and COVID testing kits. Through this initiative of PICT, importers will have the opportunity to reduce prices of such items for the general public and hospitals to fight this pandemic,” added PICT.

Meanwhile, automaker Atlas Honda has also announced to temporarily shut down its plant and office amid coronavirus spread. “In order to comply with the directives of the Punjab Government relating to the outbreak of COVID-19, the company, its plant, and regional offices shall temporarily be closed from 24th March 2020 to April 6, 2020.

Atlas Battery Limited has also stopped its operations from March 24, 2020, including factory and regional offices till further notice.

Earlier, Indus Motor Company Limited (IMCL), Pak Suzuki Motors Company Limited (PSML) and Yamaha Motor Pakistan (YMP) Monday announced to shut plants and offices during the lockdown in Sindh. These auto companies have decided to close its operations in Sindh from March 24, 2020, till April 6th, 2020 or further orders.
