At least 61 killed as cold weather wreaks havoc in Azad Kashmir

The recent wave of rains and snowfall killed 61 persons while scores were missing in Azad Kashmir, Prime Minister Azad Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider on Tuesday.

As per details, 61 persons were killed in different incidents across Azad Kashmir as chilling weather grips the country, informed Prime Minister Azad Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider. He said that 59 persons were killed in Neelum Valley. Whereas one person each was killed in Kotli, Rawlakot, Sandhuti

More than 56 houses have been completely destroyed, informed Haider. The administration is working in collaboration with Pakistan Army.

Arrangements are being made to find the missing persons using helicopters, said the spokesperson NDMA. Whereas, basic amenities and tents have been dispatched for the affectees from Muzaffarabad, informed NDMA.

Wave of chilling weather has gripped Pakistan, the cold weather claimed some 27 persons in different parts of the country. At least 14 lives were lost in different parts of Balochistan, whereas, key routes and and air links of the province were suspended.

Balochistan received rain and snowfall of the season while the met office has forecast chances of rain with occasional gusty winds in Karachi on Sunday.

Minimum temperature in Karachi went down to 06 degree Celsius on Saturday night. The port city experienced gusty winds with wind speed of 46 kilometres per hour, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said in its weather report.

A westerly weather system has entered Sindh, under its influence the city was likely to receive light rain or drizzle on Sunday.
