Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan Thursday said that matters of national interest should be kept away from politics.

While addressing a ceremony in Islamabad, she stressed that national matters should not be politicized. She said the matter being discussed in the Parliament was of Pakistani institutions and not of a specific political party or personality.

She said institutions belonged to the people of Pakistan and not to any individual or party. She hoped that the Parliament would play its role according to the Constitution and law to settle an issue currently being discussed in the Parliament (referring to legislation on the extension of COAS Bajwa's tenure).

"God willing, with a consensus, we will settle this important issue and Parliament will play a key role," she said.

"We all have a responsibility to Pakistan's institutions, which are the guarantors of national well-being," she said, adding the Parliament had been approached for a matter which fell under the executive domain of the Prime Minister.

While talking about India, she said Indian defense minister had used the authority of the state's executive branch for the appointment of the army chief as first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) "but there (in India) you did not see any discussion or debate in the media and neither was this type of commotion created."

Dr Firdous Ashiq said the overseas Pakistanis had always expressed love for the motherland and played their part in the country's development. She assured that the country was progressing.

She said 2020 would hopefully be the year of progress for the underdeveloped people as employments were increasing with ease of doing business.

Earlier, Firdous Ashiq Awan said in a series of tweets that the government would soon announce a policy to establish industries in the country under which measures would be taken for restoration of the closed industries.

She said All Pakistan Textile Mills Association's appreciation of the government's economic team for enhancing textile exports is manifestation of its confidence. The special assistant said it was a testimony to the fact that the government's sincere efforts were aimed at promoting the country's exports.

She said cotton crop was of vital importance for promotion of textile industry, therefore its production would be increased with China's help. The agriculture sector had also been made part of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, she added. Dr Firdous further said those key initiatives to strengthen the agricultural sector would significantly increase exports.
