Trade volume at Khunjerab Pass a major border port between China and Pakistan, witnessed a growth of 46.8 percent this year.

As per Xinhua, the cargo import and export reached 66,600 tonnes in the first 11 months at Khunjerab Pass in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, an increase of 46.8pc from the same period last year.

Located at about 5,000 meters above sea level, Khunjerab Pass is a major trade port between China and Pakistan, and an important gateway to South Asia and Europe. Pakistan mainly exports textiles, agricultural products and daily commodities there, and imports plants and herbs.

Authorities at Khunjerab Pass said they will continue to increase customs clearance efficiency to facilitate trade in the future.

The two countries are part of the ambitious Belt and Road Initiative, days ago, ambassador of China to Pakistan Yao Jing said that Special Economic Zones (SEZs) would be built in Pakistan in the next phase of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The second phase of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would generate over 1.5 million job opportunities in the country.
