Chaudhry Sugar Mills: Court accepts Maryam Nawaz’s plea for exemption from hearings

An accountability court accepted on Friday Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz's plea seeking exemption from appearing before the court in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills (CSM) case.

The PML-N leader and her cousin Yousuf Abbas were presented by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) before the court. During the hearing, Maryam's lawyer submitted an application in the court requesting the court to grant his client exemption from appearing in the case proceedings, local media reported. The court has granted her exemption till a reference in the case has been filed in the CSM.

Similarly, the court has also accepted another request by the lawyer to grant former prime minister Nawaz Sharif exemption for four weeks as he is in London for medical treatment. The hearing has been adjourned till December 6.

Maryam was arrested by NAB on August 8 in the CSM case. Later, she was granted bail in the case after her father's health deteriorated. The Lahore High Court (LHC) had directed the PML-N leader to submit two surety bonds worth Rs10 million to secure her release. LHC also directed the PML-N leader to surrender her passport and deposit an additional Rs70 million.
