Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was discharged on Wednesday from Lahore's Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) after being under treatment since last month.

The former premier is being taken to his residence Jati Umra. Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif, PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz and Captain (retd) Mohammad Safdar are accompanying the former premier.

According to PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb, an Intensive Care Unit has been set up at Nawaz's residence under the supervision of the former premier’s personal physician Dr Adnan Malik. She added that doctors have also put a ban on people from visiting Nawaz, local media reported.

The former premier was supposed to be shifted to Sharif Medical City Hospital on Tuesday. However, Nawaz refused since the release orders for his daughter Maryam could not be obtained from Lahore High Court. However, an accountability court in Lahore issued the release orders for Maryam today after confirming her surety bonds.
