  • IHC judges said they were not medical experts and doctors are the best judges in this situation.
  • Nawaz Sharif has been at Services Hospital Lahore since Monday night.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) was informed on Friday that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif needs to be treated otherwise his life will be in danger.

A bench comprising Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani took up the plea regarding Sharif suspension in the Al-Azizia case and to release him on bail. During the hearing, Services Hospital Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Saleem Cheema, who is a member of the medical board, submitted Sharif's medical report to the bench.

He said that doctors needed to conduct several tests of the former PM only when his health improves, local media reported. Cheema further told the IHC that if  Sharif does not receive immediate treatment, his life is in danger. The judges replied that they were not medical experts and doctors are the best judges in this situation.

The high court said that they were looking at the petition on basis of Sharif's medical condition. The bench asked that Nawaz's personal physician Dr Adnan Khan tell them what his concerns were and to submit a report in the next hearing.  The court has adjourned the hearing till Tuesday.

Sharif was shifted to Services Hospital on Monday after his condition ‘deteriorated'. The National Accountability Bureau shifted Sharif to a hospital after his personal physician reported that his platelet count fell because of multiple pathologies.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Imran Khan took to his Twitter handle and said, “Political differences notwithstanding, my sincere prayers are with Nawaz Sharif for his health. I have directed all concerned to ensure provision of the best possible health care and medical treatment to him".
