An anti-terrorism court (ATC) acquitted on Thursday former Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) leader Faisal Raza Abidi in contempt of court case.

During the hearing today, ATC Judge Shahrukh Arjamand after hearing arguments announced the acquittal of the former PPP senator, local media reported.

Last year in December, Abidi was indicted by the ATC for his anti-judiciary remarks. The former PPP senator had denied the charges. Abidi had also written an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court (SC) for his derogatory remarks. In his apology, the PPP leader had said he will not repeat this mistake in future.

The PPP leader was arrested on October 10 outside SC premises and taken to the Secretariat police station. A case was filed against Abidi for his statements which he made during an interview. Abidi had used defamatory language against the former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar and also insulted the judiciary.
