SC summons Secretary Environment in pollution case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday summoned the Secretary Environment over environmental pollution prevailing in the country on next date of hearing.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial and comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Munib Akhtar, heard the case.
During the course of proceedings, the bench expressed concern over the federal and provincial governments’ efforts in the environmental pollution case, asking whether the government was a sleep as judicial orders were not being acted upon.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked that environmental pollution was an important issue, but the federal and provincial governments were not cooperating with the environmental commission.
He remarked : The poisoning from factories is spreading; there is no arrangement for toxic water reservoirs; judicial orders are not being complied with; is the government sleeping ?,” Justice Ata stated.
He observed that toxicity was increasing, owing to smokes that excreted from chimneys of factories. No proper measure has been taken to get rid of poisonous water, he added.
The court summoned the Secretary Climate Change for the next hearing and adjourned the hearing.
