KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister for Irrigation, Works and Services Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Friday assured that Irrigation system of the province will be revamped to ensure sufficient water supply to the tail-end growers.

Sukkur Barrage system was the backbone of Sindh's irrigation system and that with the support of the World Bank, it would be strengthened to meet the future agriculture need. On this account, he continued, Sindh Government had completed the talks with the World Bank, said the Senior Minister while talking to media outside Sindh Assembly, which is in session.

Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that it was his top priority to provide equitable water share to the tail-end growers including those of Badin district.

" I know, tail-end growers are facing acute shortage of water and are facing hardships. I shall go to the last extent to provide them water," he said adding that PPP leadership was cognizant of the situation and was serious for the resolution.

By giving me the very important portfolio of Irrigation, he said, he had been assigned the big task of strengthening the irrigations system of the province aimed at bringing agricultural revolution with the best use of the vast fertile land available. This depicted the trust in him by Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Co-Chairman, Asif Ali Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, he maintained.

Sindh Government had already done a lot of work on the irrigation system, and with de-silting and strengthening of the water courses the issue of agriculture land's turning as barren had been stopped to large extent.

To a question, he strongly rejected the rumors about his differences with the Chief Minister and said he enjoyed full support and trust of Syed Murad Ali Shah. That is why, he articulated, he was also given other very important portfolios of Works and Services.
