Govt starts 15 trains during last eight months: Senate told

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Muhammad Khan Thursday told the Senate that present government had started 11 passengers and four freight trains during the last eight months.
Replaying to question in the Senate on the behalf of Minister for Railways, the minister said the previous government had started only seven trains during the last five years from 2013-18.
He said there were number of proposals, under consideration by the government to introduce new trains during the next five years subject to availability of resources, especially coaches, goods wagons and locomotives.
Pakistan Railways owned 460 D.E locomotives, out of these, 325 were functional while 135 were non-functional, he added.
To another question, the minister said that no losses suffered by Pakistan Railways during the current financial year and during the last financial year (up to March, 2018) Pakistan Railways had earned Rs 35.304 billion.
During the current financial year 2018-19, Pakistan Railways had earned
Rs 39.010 billion (up to March, 2019) which was Rs 3.706 billion more than the previous financial year (same period).
