UNHCR’s Revem, Martu calls on Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Jam

QUETTA: United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)’s Ms Revem and  Martu called on Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Jam Kamal Khan at his office on Wednesday.

Provincial Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Longov, Commissioner Afghan Refeguees’s Brigadier retired Masood Ahmed Khan and Special Secretary Home Bashir Bangulzai were present on the occasion, said press release issued here.

Returning of Afghan Refugees, Cooperation of World Bank in provision of jobs, healthcare facilities, imparting education to Afghan Refugees at Balochistan-Afghan borders, supporting in development programs and vocational training of Afghan Refugees came under discussion in meeting.

Chief Minister Mir Jam Kamal Khan desires maintaining peace and development of economics in Pakistan and Afghanistan while sustainable peace is important for both countries.

“Government wants the Afghan Refugees to respectfully return to their homeland”, he said, adding coordination of World Bank is need to Department of Planning and Development so that local people can take benefits from programs of World Bank.

He said peace would be more improved in both countries after completion of installing fencing at Pak-Afghan borders, despite, economic activities would be boosted by establishment of urban centers at border areas.

The UNHCR Representative briefed the Chief Minister Balochistan about Afghan Refugees and their related matters in Afghanistan.

She said returning process of Afghan Refugees is remained slow due to lack of employment and poor of economic in Afghanistan.

“On returning every refugees is given two hundred dollars in Afghanistan by UNHCR, while providing vocational training and being able them to get jobs”, she added.

She said program is being started to provide jobs, education and healthcare facilities to settler of Afghan Refugees in Balochistan under cooperation World Bank and provincial government.

While latest equipments were provided to Civil Hospital Quetta for ensuring quality of medical aid by UNCHR.

UNCHR Representative appreciated measures of installing fencing and strongly condemned the tragedy of Hazarganji blast which claimed 21 lives, 48 injured.
