KARACHI: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sind Dr Syed Kaleem Imam on Wednesday took a notice of media reports about a short-term kidnapping of a citizen allegedly by policemen and demanding Rs1 million as ransom.
Taking notice of the incident, the IGP asked the DIG East to present a detailed inquiry. IGP instructed DIG to meet effected citizen and look into the whole matter and investigate the case on merit.
A citizen, Abdul Aziz, who had arrived from Dubai was allegedly kidnapped from Karachi’s Malir area and tortured by plainclothes in the metropolis. However, he was later released after snatching his documents, cash and valuable mobile phone.
According to Abdul Aziz t he was allegedly kidnapped from Malir by plainclothes and illegally kept into custody for three days near Quaidabad.
He alleged that the cop Allah Dad from Quaidabad police check post and his friend Tahir Jan were involved in the crime.
“I was being tortured for three days, whereas, they also demanded Rs1 million as ransom from my mother residing in Dubai through telephone call. The policemen are now demanding Rs300, 000 for returning my passport and other valuables,” Aziz said.
