KARACHI: The University of Karachi (KU) on Tuesday received a cheque of Rs. 78.84 million from the Sindh government.
The cheque had been issued for the payment of additional PhD allowance to the teachers. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had announced Rs. 15,000 (extra) PhD allowance for the PhD teachers, said a KU press release.
The Karachi University Administration would pay Rs. 1,20,000 to each teacher for August 2018 till March 2019 as soon as the grant was transferred to the varsity's account whereas from next month additional PhD allowance would be regularly transferred to the teacher's account from the said grant.
Meanwhile, KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan expressed his gratitude on the issuance of the grant and said that the provincial government in general and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah in particular had taken keen interest in the matter.
He mentioned that the Chief Minister Sindh understand the importance of research and development culture for country's success and without developing higher education and research culture in the country, we could not even think to compete in the world.
The Vice Chancellor praising the Chief Minister said that the chief minister was putting fruitful efforts to resolve problems faced by the academia.
