Durrani despite having Rs 15bn benami property not on NAB's radar: Swati informs Senate panel

Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Azam Khan Swati Thursday informed the Sub-Committee of the Senate Functional Committee on Government Assurances that Akram Khan Durrani, former minister for housing and works, has Benami properties worth Rs 15 billion but the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is not taking any action against him.
The subcommittee met with Senator Fida Muhammad Khan in the chair here at Parliament House and discussed the allotment of plots to the government employees under the federal government housing projects of Sectors F-14 and F-15 of Islamabad.
Swati told the committee that he submitted documents with proof against Durrani in the NAB, but most of officials of the accountability watchdog are creating hurdles in the way of justice. He said that the NAB chairman and deputy chairman are good persons and are trying their level best for accountability.
He claimed that there are only Rs 5.5 million worth properties in the name of Durrani while properties valuing Rs 15 billion are benami in the name of his relatives and other people. The minister said that he submitted documents with proof in the NAB office during the last two years but it did not take any action in this regard.
The finance secretary of Federal Employees Cooperative Housing Society told the committee that possession 101 plots would be given to the employees in the next 15 days.
Swati said that a mafia is active and many people have been looted in the name of plots. He said strict action needs to be taken against all such fraudsters.
Some the affected employees of the Parliament House raised serious reservations over the allotment of plots. They said that three persons have been allotted the same plot, while position of plots has also been changed. They said that plots were not distributed according to the list on the basis of seniority. They said that responsibility of distribution and allotment of plots should be given to the subcommittee.
They said that six years ago they paid full amount for plots but the society has not allotted them any plot. The subcommittee sought a list signed by the registrar of the Federal Employees Housing Society.
