Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan has called upon the leaders of the G7 Summit to take a strong stance against the "degrading of humanity" in the Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) and stop Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi from targeting the population of the occupied valley.
"The world leaders met at an international huddle in France. These leaders came together to discuss ways and means to improve mutual business, trade and economic ties. They should also spare sometime and take a solid stance against the height of inhuman practices that are going on right under the nose of an extremist regime in India," she told a press conference here on Monday.
"The world should stop Modi from meeting out tyranny at the innocent people of IOK," Awan said, referring to Modi's participation in the recently held G7 Summit as a guest, which was held in France. The special assistant reminded the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and the world powers that they effectively got the resolutions of UNSC implemented to give the people of East Timor and South Sudan their due rights.
"If the UNSC can have its resolutions implemented in East Timor and South Sudan to end the sufferings of the people of these countries, why can't the UNSC get its resolutions implemented on IOK? The people of IOK are looking at the world in general and UNSC in particular to get rid of ever increasing atrocities in the occupied valley.
It's high time, the UNSC abides by its responsibility, the sooner the better. Complete curfew has been imposed across the occupied valley for the last three weeks. The people of the state of Jammu and Kashmir are subjected to inhuman treatment by occupied Indian forces and are made to live in abysmal conditions. The UN and its agencies have to take stock of this grave situation."
She said a designated Kashmir Media Cell is being set up in the Information Ministry that would work in coordination with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI's) Central Media Cell for the speedy dissemination of the latest information regarding unfolding situation in IOK. The Kashmir Media Cell would be extended to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to update the people of AJK about the steps the federal government is taking to highlight the Kashmir cause, Awan said, adding that the said cell would be functional in every district in Kashmir with the active involvement of local PTI leadership at district-level in AJK.
"The people of AJK have the right to know what the government and people of Pakistan are doing to highlight the Kashmir cause and what steps are being taken against the Indian government's brutalities in the IOK. It is the resolve of our government to leave no stone unturned to keep pursuing Kashmir issue till the Kashmir issue is resolved and the people of the occupied valley are liberated from Indian occupation. Needless to mention that Kashmir issue is one of the foremost priorities of the PTI government," she said.
On August 17, a day after the UNSC held its consultative meeting on Kashmir, the first in more than 50 years, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi chaired a meeting of the high-powered committee on Kashmir. The committee had decided to establish a Kashmir Cell in the Foreign Office and identify key capitals of the countries across the globe to set up Kashmir Desks in the Pakistan's diplomatic mission located in these capitals.
"The situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir is extremely tense. The world needs to be sensitised about it and we are doing that. There has been a curfew for the last 22 days but the way thousands of people defied the curfew and offered Friday prayers reflects the charged sentiment of the public. India has no other option but to lift the curfew and lift restrictions imposed on the residents of the occupied valley," Qureshi had said while addressing a joint press conference with Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor after the committee's meeting on August 17.
Official sources said, the Kashmir Cell, to be established in the Foreign Office, would function separately but in coordination with Kashmir Media Cell being set up in the Information Ministry. "The Kashmir Cell that would be set up in Foreign Office would be active on diplomatic front to highlight Kashmir issue. Preparations are being made in this regard," a PTI lawmaker, privy to the matter, told Business Recorder.
